MALAYSIA – October 8, 2013 – In celebration of Malaysia’s 50th birthday, Firefly Video, the engagement video platform of Exponential, has started to run multi-award-winning musician Pete Teo’s "Hari Malaysia" music video across its network of over 3,000 websites. The video will be run until October 16.
Released on September 16, the video features restored archive news footage taken from August 31, 1957 when Malaysia achieved independence from Britain, and September 16, 1963 when the Malaysian federation was established.
The video is also a moving tribute to Malaysia’s first prime minister from independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman. It stars modern Malaysian personalities – all of whom are transported back in time through visual effects to the days of Malaysia’s founding.
"Hari Malaysia" also features the Malay language song "Kembara" and its English counterpart "Slipstream," sung by Asmidar and Melina William respectively. Both songs were produced and written by Pete Teo, with Malay lyric contribution by Amran Omar.
Pete Teo shared, "By partnering with Firefly Video we are confident that our PSA video will be seen by Malaysians. Firefly has been a great partner for us previously and we are excited to work with the company again."
The video will run across Firefly Video’s high-engagement ad units across the Exponential-owned network, which reaches more than 450 million unique users every month.
The company began working with Teo in 2011, when they supported his video promoting the right to vote, "Undilah." The video was banned for broadcasting by Information Minister Rais Yatim, but the ban was lifted by Prime Minister Najib Razak a few weeks later.
Teo has also made seminal viral videos such as "Here In My Home" and "15Malaysia."
