MANILA, September 16, 2013 – Mini, the iconic small car brand from the UK, had a colorful upgrade at the deft hands of master water color artist Rafael Cusi, who painted four Mini hoods and two pairs of mirror caps with abstract pieces.
Using acrylic paint, Cusi turned each car part into works of art which were auctioned off at the Mini showroom in Bonifacio Global City last September 12. The auction was hosted by the Ricco Renzo Gallery, as part of their ten-year anniversary celebration.
The mirror caps were sold at the event, while the hoods are still being bid for in a silent auction which ends today. Winning bidders will be able to install the car parts on to their Mini cars.
Proceeds from the auction will go to the L.E.T.S Read Program of the Corazon Sanchez Atayde Memorial Foundation, an English literacy program that encourages reading in young children.
"Mini as a brand is not normal per se. We do things a little bit differently. What we’ve been able to have created for us tonight by the artist himself Mr. Cusi will display that by itself," Mini Philippines general manager Ryan Watson said at the anniversary event.
"Like every single piece of art is individual expression of the artist, every single one of our owner’s vehicles is an individual expression of themselves as well," he added.
Along with the painted Minis, the event also showcased a selection of Cusi’s paintings, which were curated by critic Cid Reyes.
