New UPMG officers announced for 2012-2013

THE PHILIPPINES, JANUARY 4, 2012: The United Print Media Group, Inc. (UPMG), the organization of major newspapers, magazines, and tabloids circulated in the Philippines and foreign countries, has elected its Board of Officers for the year 2012-2013 and VP for Corporate Affairs of BusinessMirror/PGPI, Ricky M. Alegre, will serve as the new President of the organization.

The organization aims to establish common benefits and promote harmonious relationship among each other and with all sectors involved in the print media business and advertising. UPMG also works to raise the ethical standards and upgrade the quality of both its members’ general and individual services. Lastly, it is also UPMG’s goal to work towards a standardization of print and media policies and regulations.
 
“I’m very honored and humbled that the United Print Media Group has elected me as President for the next two years (2012-2013). It is a great challenge for me because of the call for unity and integration,” says Alegre on his election.
 
Incumbent UPMG President and VP for Advertising of Philippine Daily Inquirer, Pepito M. Olarte, who has servedUPMG for six consecutive years was elected President Emeritus.
 
Alegre expressed his high regard for Olarte’s election saying, “We feel that although he gets a higher recognition for all his efforts and he must be very much part of the Board because his say and role in the expansion and strengthening of UPMG has to be recognized.”
 
The newly elected UPMG President acknowledged the upcoming challenges for the print industry in 2012. “We have a lot of challenges facing the print media today and the proper representation in the Adboard will also help our industry continue to grow in 2012 and 2013 because there is no truth that it is a dying industry. In fact, our association has grown three-fold since we got together nine years ago.”
 
On what UPMG has in store for us in the coming years, Alegre has this to say, “We know the challenges are huge and we’re ready to face it. Expect a more dynamic and energetic UPMG in the next two years to come.”

History 
In July 27, 2011, PRIMO and PRADO merged to form UPMG, which will function to work on building a standard of the policies and regulations of print media. The first to serve as president of the organization was Pacienca M. Pineda of Manila Bulletin who served for two terms.
