HONG KONG – November 1, 2013 – FOX International Channels Asia (FIC) has announced the launch of STAR Chinese Movies’ (SCM) Southeast Asia (SEA) feed, which goes on air today.
The move builds on SCM’s position as the ‘Emperor of Chinese Entertainment’ and a globally renowned brand that offers viewers around the world access to the latest Chinese-language blockbuster movies and other premium content, FIC said in a press release.
The addition of SCM’s SEA feed takes the premium Chinese entertainment channel to a total of eight feeds, making SCM the largest and farthest reaching Chinese-language channel.
In addition to SEA, SCM’s eight feeds also include SCM Hong Kong in SD and HD, SCM Taiwan in SD & HD, SCM Singapore in SD & HD and SCM International whose footprint covers Canada, USA, Australia and was recently launched in New Zealand last month.
“The launch of SCM’s new feed for Southeast Asia marks another milestone for FIC’s ambitious goals to develop and promote Chinese entertainment as premium crossover content, not just in Asia but worldwide,” said Cora Yim, Vice President of the Chinese Channels Group at FOX International Channels. “With our global scale, steady investment in not just acquiring but also producing content, and established channel brand of SCM, FIC is in a great position to lead the charge in taking Chinese content global.”
Each of the SCM feeds has its own content and programming strategy to suit the territory it caters, FIC said. In addition to the linear channel, FIC also offers SCM PLAY, an authenticated online catch-up service via the web or the iOS and Android app, allowing viewers to catch up on their favorite Chinese-language content whenever they want, wherever they want. The rapid expansion of its Chinese channels portfolio and non-linear services is in line with FIC’s commitment to make available premium Chinese-language entertainment not just across Asia but all across the world.
SCM’s SEA feed is available from today in Thailand via affiliate partners GMMZ and MeTV, and in Indonesia via affiliate partners First Media, Big TV, Parabola Orange TV, Skynindo and will be available on Aora TV from December 1, 2013. Recognizing that viewers’ tastes in Chinese entertainment differ in different countries across Asia, FIC invested in launching SCM’s SEA feed to further customize content and scheduling to suit viewers in these two important markets. Its current line-up includes blockbusters such as Saving General Yang, Ah Boys to Men 1 & 2 and The Wedding Diary 2, an SCM original co-production. These films will be subtitled in Chinese and English as well as Bahasa Indonesia and Thai respectively.
As the world’s leading Chinese entertainment channel, SCM secures the exclusive first-window rights for the best Chinese-language movies from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and other countries across Asia. Its top quality line-up includes 12 movies that recently garnered an impressive 40 nominations across all the key categories for the 50th Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan’s prestigious annual film festival.
These films include Wong Kar Wai’s latest masterpiece The Grandmaster, the blockbuster hit Drug War and the breakout Singaporean film ILO ILO. In addition, for the first time, the Golden Horse Awards will be broadcasted LIVE on SCM in seven countries around the world, including North America and the Pacific, evidence of the growing popularity and power of Chinese content outside of Asia. The awards will air live in Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand on November 23.
