Star continues call for donations as #LingapBohol fund drive totals P2.6M

MANILA – October 24, 2013 – The Philippine Star continues to call for donations for the quake victimes in Bohol, through its social arm Operation Damayan and the #LingapBohol fund drive.
 
Donors of The Philippine STAR’s social arm, Operation Damayan, continued to pour in their support for and solidarity with quake victims in Bohol as The STAR revved up for relief operations scheduled this week in the badly-hit town of Loon, The Star said in a press release.
 
The #LingapBohol fund drive of The STAR has reached P2.6 million following generous donations from corporate and individual donors such as Dr. Ma. Victoria G. Belo, P300,000; KL, P50,000; Anonymous (FP), P50,000; Bond of Brotherhood XJJ, P50,000.
 
STAR president and CEO Miguel Belmonte will personally lead the relief operations in tandem with Loon mayor Lloyd Lopez, who met with Damayan volunteers over the weekend.
 
Lopez requested for STAR to donate much-needed food and toiletries for the 9,000 families displaced by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit the town. 
 
“The images that we see on TV only show patches of the disaster but personally seeing Loon, the desolation is all over,” said Damayan head Emie Cruz. The initial batch of goods from STAR’s LingapBohol fund drive have been flown to Cebu and will make their way to Tagbilaran City today, The Star said.
