The ‘Belgian Spirit’ comes to Business of Design Week annual conference

HONG KONG – October 21, 2013 – The spotlight shines on the ‘Belgian Spirit’ at the 11th edition of Asia’s leading annual design event from December 2 to 7, 2013, at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center. 

This year’s Business of Design Week will feature dynamic Belgian speakers, their creative designing process and design-led solutions, as well as innovative products and services.

With Belgium as Partner Country, BODW 2013, the forum will showcase the highly influential Belgian perspective in exhibitions, forums and programs, as well as its key role in the growing business of design, innovation and branding.

Key Belgian designers and guests will attend, including influential graphic conceptualist Thierry Brunfaut, unique furniture designer Xavier Lust, Elvis Pompillio, hat designers for celebrities, automobile legend Lowie Vermeersch, Brussels’ award winning designer Alain Gilles, global reputable designer Charles Kaisin, and Anne Chapelle, CEO of fashion brands Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann.   

Also arriving is the winner of 2013 Pritzker Architecture Prize Toyo Ito, Poland’s intriguing editorial and typography artists Artur Frankowski and Magdalena Frankowska, ‘the King Midas of Design’ Stefano Giovannoni, multi-discipline artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde, world renowned architect Ascan Mergenthaler, and three time Compasso d Oro Award winner Matteo Thun from Italy.   

Other prominent international speakers include Sou Fujimoto, the youngest ever creator of the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, Larry Keeley, an innovation strategist, the President and Co-founder of the Chicago Consultancy Doblin,  interior designer William Paley from Tonychi and Associates, and Deyan Sudjic, the Director of Design Museum from London.

Organized by the Hong Kong Design Center (HKDC) since 2002, the week-long program brings the global design community‘s best minds to Hong Kong, allowing industry experts and executives to network and share innovation and ideas. The gathering also encourages artists and businesses to unleash the power of design by focusing on their vital relationship and complex interplay.

In addition to the three-day forum, special events around the week include the Detour community program, which aims to inspire participants about the power of design in building a better tomorrow. 

There will also be the Brand Asia Forum, the DesignEd Asia Conference, the Technology for Design Seminar, as well as the HKDC Annual Awards Gala Dinner.
