TAIWAN – October 11, 2013 – Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Asia, a division of Viacom Inc. has announced the launch of Comedy Central Asia on Chunghwa Telecom.

The channel went on-air on October 1, enabling about 800,000 Chunghwa’s Luxury Pack subscribers on Channel 83 to access Comedy Central Asia, Viacom said in a press release.

The agreement was made through distributor agent, Portico Media Co. Ltd, where programs on Comedy Central Asia will be progressively sub-titled to Mandarin in order to make the shows more accessible to the Taiwanese audience.

“Expanding the reach of Comedy Central with Chunghwa Telecom and Portico Media Co. Ltd, enables us to meet the growing demand for our channels in Taiwan and bring Comedy in a big way to Chunghwa subscribers,” said VIMN Asia’s executive vice president and managing director, Indra Suharjono.

“Today’s announcement not only reinforces the importance of the Taiwanese market as we further expand our brand presence there, but marks Taiwan as the tenth market, and Chunghwa as the 17th provider in Asia to carry Comedy Central in less than a year.”

Meanwhile, Yi-Fong Chang, Northern Taiwan Business Group Vice President, Chunghwa Telecom said they were excited to collaborate with VIMN and welcomed Comedy Central on their platform.

“The addition of Comedy Central marks a significant step in not only bringing Chunghwa closer to our goal of meeting key content needs of our subscribers, but also fills a unique gap with a 24-hour all-English comedy channel.”

Comedy Central first launched in the United States in 1991. The brand has become a destination for all kinds of humor, from traditional to satire to sketches to popular sitcoms.

Comedy Central Asia, which launched on November 1, 2012, is VIMN Asia’s first adult-skewed network. With its comedy content round-the-clock, Comedy Central Asia is the only 24-hour all-comedy channel to showcase Asian and international comedy and comedic talent.

Globally, Comedy Central is seen in more than 200 million homes in over 70 countries around the world.
