Although electricity was cut from the province for the past couple of days, several free mobile phone charging stations were established in different parts of the province. That, and the recent restoration of mobile signal in several areas, helped Leyte residents search for news about Pacquiao online, on their mobile phones, Google said.. Residents also managed to view the match live through the free live telecast on television screens provided by the city government and cable service providers in the province.

According to Google Trends, Pinoys in Leyte and other parts of the country searched for Pacquiao’s past opponents, Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley.

Pacquiao also managed to capture the interest of the international audience, with the search term ‘Manny Pacquiao’ becoming the 2nd top searched keyword in terms of News Search worldwide for the past seven days. The keyword ‘Pacquiao’ also took the 3rd spot in terms of news searches. American professional baseball player, Prince Fielder, took the number one spot.
