ABS-CBN tops USTv Students Choice Awards

PHILIPPINES, FEBRUARY 22, 2011 – ABS-CBN Corporation bagged a total of 15 recognitions at this year’s USTv Students Choice Awards, making it the most-awarded TV station and the true network of choice of most students at the University of Santo Tomas (UST).

ABS-CBN President and COO Charo Santos-Concio led the Kapamilya stars, production heads, and staff who graced the event and came in full force to support USTv’s Quadricentennial edition as well as UST’s ongoing 400th year celebration. Santos-Concio also received the award for the Drama Program category for Asia’s longest running drama anthology, which has won at the USTv award every year since Students Choice started.
 
Kapamilya star Coco Martin generated the loudest screams and cheers when he accepted the Students Choice – Actor in a Daily Local Soap Opera award for his portrayal in the hit primetime series “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.” Angelica Panganiban, on the other hand, was named Students Choice – Actress in a Daily Local Soap Opera for her unforgettable performance as “Rubi.” Andi Eigenmann personally accepted the award for Students Choice – Daily Local Soap Opera for "Agua Bendita".
 
Host Boy Abunda went up the stage twice as he accepted the Students Choice of Entertainment News Program for “The Buzz” and Students Choice – Public Affairs-Talk Show Program for “The Bottomline.” Other entertainment show recognized that night were “ASAP” for the Students Choice – Variety Show category and “He’s Beautiful” for the Foreign Soap Opera category.
 
In the news and current affairs categories, ABS-CBN was able to bag the Students Choice – Public Service Program for “Salamat Dok” and Educational Program for “Matanglawin,” where host Kim Atienza accepted the award. Anchors Ted Failon and Karen Davila, on the other hand, were named the news anchors of choice by Thomasians as they won Students Choice – Male News and Current Affairs Host and Female News and Current Affairs Host respectively.
 
Star Records also took home an award in the Students Choice – Local Music Video category for Juris’ “Di Lang Ikaw.” Juris personally accepted the said award, which is the first ever recognition she received as a solo artist.
 
ABS-CBN’s free TV channel Studio 23 won as Students Choice – Sports Program for its airing of the UAAP games produced by ABS-CBN Sports, while ABS-CBN’s cable channel MYX won as the first ever recipient of the Students Choice of Music Channel.
 
Among the performers that night were Pilipinas Got Talent grand finalist Alakim and Showtime’s first grand winner XB Gensan.
 
ABS-CBN also ruled the recent Gandingan 2011: The 5th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Broadcast Choice Awards where it took home 18 awards, including Most Development-Oriented TV Station.
 
The USTv Students Choice Awards is spearheaded by the Office of the Secretary General of the University of Santo Tomas. Currently on its 7th year, it aims to give recognition to programs and personalities that promote Thomasian values and in harmony with the Catholic teachings.
