SORSOGON, PHILIPPINES — Bicolano artists belonging to the Concerned Artists of the Philippines and Kurit-Lagting Art Collective will be launching BULIG, a fundraising initiative in celebration of the National Arts month and will feature various works of art for the benefit of the displaced survivors of typhoon Odette, who are currently facing limited access to basic needs. Super Typhoon Rai (known as “Odette” in the Philippines) was the 15th storm to hit the country in December 2021 and was the strongest storm of 2021.
In a statement, the art groups said that the event hopes to help raise funds and donations for typhoon-devastated communities in Surigao, Mindanao Region.
“This fundraiser is for food and medical supplies, especially during this trying time which is also due to the COVID19 crisis. We are also hoping that more artists will join us in this cause,” they said.
The Kurit-Lagting is a collective artistic collaboration of Bicolano artists from Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Camarines provinces with art advocacies on human rights and the environment. The Art Collective is a member of the Sorsogon Arts Council and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter.
The Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter (CAP-Bicol) is one of CAP’s newest chapters formed in October 2020, which is composed of artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, and cultural workers from various disciplines that work toward a nationalist, people-oriented art and culture.
