MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Former Congresswoman turned International Artist Sal Ponce-Enrile, who’s popularly known in her art moniker “Sal,” opens her third solo exhibit at Art Elaan, Ayala Malls Manila Bay last March 12, 2020.

Titled as “Transformation,” the art show will give the audience a glimpse of Sal’s eagerness and adventure but wanting direction during her early days as a novel artist. The paintings’ overall concept tells how she explored her creative expression and experimented with various forms and techniques that allowed her to have a broader perspective in creating concepts with more intention and confidence. She treats “Transformation” as a fitting hallmark of her artistic identity, which carries the message that art is never stagnant.

Her painting “Woman on a Train” is her favorite from the collection. Sal explains “Woman on a Train” would be my favorite because you don’t see her lips. Still, her eyes tell the story, where she’s going, how she’s feeling at that particular moment, and giving the audience a pondering moment to guess her emotions. Is she smiling, sad, or tired? I find that beautiful.”

Apart from “Woman on a Train,” another intriguing piece for her is her painting “Vision.” She drew inspiration from her experience waking up from a dream and being compelled to put it on canvas. “I like it because it affirms my artistic process where inspirations come from everything around me, including dreams,” she said.

Sal’s masterpieces are displayed and collected by art patrons in Europe (Germany, Spain, Italy, UK), Dubai, and NYC (Soho and Manhattan to be exact), with a few in California. Recently, her pieces were bought by an NBA player and a local prolific art collector family.

For her third solo exhibit, Sal hopes her audience to leave the show feeling refreshed and inspired in these troubled times. “We need beauty now more than ever. To be more pragmatic, the global health crisis left several individuals and communities in dire conditions. Proceeds of my shows all go to different charities as my way of helping, one artwork at a time,” she said.

The show runs at Art Elaan from March 12 – March 31, 2021. The gallery is located on the 2nd Floor of Filipino Village, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard cor., Aseana Avenue, Parañaque City, Metro Manila. Health guidelines will be strictly implemented.
