MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The worlds of Philippine fashion and visual arts collide in a spectacular fusion at Filipiniana x Obra, an exhibit that redefines the terno through the lens of fine art. Presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in collaboration with BENCH/Suyen Corporation, this showcase brings together the brilliant minds behind TernoCon 2025 – the country’s premier terno-making competition. Now open to the public until May 4, 2025, at the Sandiganbayan Reception Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts, this exhibit is a must-see for culture and fashion enthusiasts alike.

TernoCon has long been a platform for Filipino designers to push the boundaries of tradition while honoring the craftsmanship of the national dress. This year’s Filipiniana x Obra extends that dialogue, seamlessly integrating couture with the visual narratives of Philippine fine art.
“TernoCon plays a crucial role in CCP’s dedication to providing an avenue for the exploration of budding fashion designers. While promoting the excellent craftsmanship behind the reinterpretations of the national dress, the Filipiniana x Obra exhibit sustains the dialogue TernoCon started and integrates it with the profound portrayal of Philippine culture through visual arts,” said CCP President Kaye C. Tinga.

Following the runway spectacle of TernoCon 2025 last January 26, this exhibit presents striking terno pieces inspired by the masterpieces of Filipino visual artists. Each ensemble is a testament to how art, in its many forms, continues to shape the Filipino identity.
Visitors will witness the exquisite designs of TernoCon 2025 winners, each paying homage to iconic figures in Philippine art and architecture:
- Peach Garde, winner of the Pacita Longos Medal (Gold Award), channels the modernist brilliance of National Artist Leandro Locsin, echoing the sleek, geometric structures of the Philippine International Convention Center and the CCP Main Building.
- Bryan Peralta, recipient of the Pura Escurdia Award (Silver Prize), finds inspiration in the dynamic, textural strokes of National Artist Jose Joya.
- Ram Silva, awarded the Ramon Valera Award (Bronze Prize), breathes life into the rural elegance depicted by National Artist Fernando Amorsolo.
- Windell Madis, winner of the Joe Salazar Medal (Chief Mentor’s Award), embraces the vibrant, abstract aesthetic of National Artist Hernando Ocampo.

Completing the lineup, TernoCon 2025 finalists Koko Gonzales, Jared Servano, Lexter Badana, Geom Hernandez, Patrick Lazol, Nina Gatan, Irene Subang, and Jema Gamer present their exceptional takes on the terno, while semi-finalist Noel Marin explores enagua-inspired pastel renditions.
Besides the terno, Filipiniana x Obra presents a collection of artworks that are imprinted on the Philippine cultural tapestry. It includes Anita Magsaysay-Ho’s Three Women with Baskets, Lao Lianben’s Rain, and Ocampo’s Abstract. Joya’s New York City No. 2 and National Artist Ang Kiukok’s Still Life: Table are also displayed alongside Ramon Orlina’s glass sculpture Elegance in Simplicity.
