MANILA, PHILIPPINES — This February, the NCCA Gallery proudly opened its latest solo exhibition, Coaxing Gestures, Transverse Visuals: The KableArt of Ruben Jasareno. The solo exhibition showcased Ruben’s visual art project which was conceived in 2018. In the spirit of National Arts Month’s theme, “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain,” the KableArt promoted the reinvigoration of the good in the Filipino community and social values.

With this, Ruben’s KableArt suggests a creative approach that intertwines the subtle movements and directions of the upcycled coaxial cables and wires, and the ability of the mounted pieces to traverse conventional boundaries and dimensions, evoking narratives of Philippine landscapes.

The opening reception commenced with a welcoming message from NCCA Executive Director Oscar G. Casaysay, followed by an opening message from the National Committee on Art Galleries (NCAG) Head Maria Teresa Rayos Del Sol. The visual artist Ruben Jasareno shared his sentiments about the arts and processes involved in making KableArt, “Pangatlo at panghuling pahiwatig na mayro’n dito sa exhibit na ito ay pagpapanibago. Hindi lang siya basta pahiwatig ng pagpupursige, pagtawid, kung hindi pagpapanibago o transformation. Maybe it is personal up to social transformation, or even national transformation.”
