MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Ateneo Blue Repertory (blueREP), in partnership with INQUIRER.net, is staging Kooman & Dimond’s Orphie and The Book of Heroes this February, blueREP’s first onsite Newbie Production since 2019.
Orphie and The Book of Heroes tells the story of spunky and curious Orphie, a young orphan girl in Ancient Greece. She sets out to save storyteller Homer and his Book of Heroes, a quest that takes her from the heights of Mount Olympus to the depths of the underworld.
Orphie and The Book of Heroes is composed of a talented artistic team, with the direction of award-winning artist and collaborator Robert Bradly Hao, musical direction of artist-teacher, performer, and cultural worker Maia Dapul, and choreography by seasoned dancer and choreographer Jim Ferrer. Areté professionals also provide their expertise, with sound design by John Robert Yam, lights design by Jethro Nibaten, sound engineering by Nilo Beriarmente, and set and props construction by Adriane Ungriano. Finally, university students join the team, with set and props design by Gerard Ma and brand design by Zero Candelaria. The production cultivates blueREP’s new pool of theater talent by facilitating student learning and member development through various workshops and projects.
The show will run from February 01 to 04 and 08 to 11 at the Doreen Fernandez Black Box Theater, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University. Tickets are available here. For any ticket inquiries, please email bluerep.house@gmail.com.
