MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Dr. Janet C. de Grano, a licensed dermatologist, unveiled her debut collection of oil paintings on old wood in her solo exhibition, Usbungan: Mga Kwento ng Kahoy. On view at Upper Galleries 03 and 04 of Pintô Art Museum, the show was inaugurated last April 16 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by de Grano, her husband, Dr. Louie de Grano, and Dr. Joven Cuanang, the founder and president of Pintô who is also a prominent neurologist in the Philippines.
Dr. de Grano’s collection features unique pieces of old wood discovered on Philippine soil, with each carrying a story that reflects Filipino heritage. Most of the wood had been discarded, and de Grano meticulously selected, cleaned, colored, and transformed them with lovely colors in oil, resulting in stunning works of art. These pieces celebrate the distinctive narrative of Philippine wood, which bears witness to the accumulated effects of cracks, holes, changes in sharpness and color, as well as depths developed over the years.
Usbungan: Mga Kwento ng Kahoy will run until May 6. Pintô Art Museum is located at 1 Sierra Madre St. Grand Heights Subdivision, Antipolo City. For inquiries, contact Jenny Villanueva at 0927-764-6270 or pintoartmuseum@yahoo.com.
