MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The virtual awards night for The Asia Pacific Tambuli Awards 2022 is happening right now, June 07. The Tambuli Awards celebrate brands that show the seamless integration of creativity, purpose, and results. Case study entries must demonstrate how brands uplift society, create positive change, and correlate purpose with purchase.

[7:05 pm GMT] Delivering opening remarks is the University of Asia and the Pacific President, Dr. Winston Conrad Padojinog; he introduces this year’s theme of Growing Brands with Purpose. “We believe that for brand purpose to be truly effective and genuine, its activities and impacts must be deeply rooted in an authentic and effective corporate purpose,” Padojinog said.

“We also saw brands using purpose to really cut through the clutter and stand out and drive extraordinary levels of brand fame,” said April Adams-Redmond, Grand Executive Jury President.

[7:17 pm GMT] The only gold winner for the media category is “Dove Blackout Mirror” for the category mobile, for Uniliver Philipinnes by agency Ogilvy and Mather Philippines Inc.

[7:21 pm GMT] There is only one winner for the Grand Prix of the media cluster category. “H for Handwashing” for Uniliver Inc. India by Lowe Lintas Mumbai + MullenLowe Singapore and MullenLowe Group.

[7:37 pm GMT] Grand Prix winner for Special Events is “Thrive by Five,” client The Minderoo Foundation, agency M&C Saatchi.

[7:44 pm GMT] Margot Torres, Managing Director of McDonald’s Philippines and Tambuli Corporate Purpose Jury President, reminds the audience that Corporate Purpose is a new category for the Tambuli Awards, different from brand purpose categories that recognize marketing campaigns. Corporate purpose has seven subcategories, one winner per category, aligned with UN Sustainability Development Goals. The winner will be a program, not a campaign, she says. “This category is not about a sexy campaign.”

[7:55 pm GMT] Coca-Cola Philippines wins Jury President’s choice for Corporate Purpose for its “STAR and iSTAR Women’s Economic Empowerment” initiative.

[8:00 pm GMT] Corporate Purpose Category winners are “Covid-19 – Crisis, not opportunity” for Uniliver Inc. (India), agencies Lowe Lintas Mumbai and MullenLowe Singapore; “McDonald’s Serving Communities with Good Food and Kindness,” by agency TBWA Santiago Maganda Puno Philippines for McDonald’s Philippines; “Jollibee Group’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Program,” for Jollibee Foods Corporation by agency Full Circle Communications Inc. Philippines; and “Dove Blackout Mirror” once again.

[8:05 pm GMT] Ashley Melissa Santillan, Marketing Manager for McDonald’s Philippines wins Young Marketing Leader of the Year. “I’ve been told time and time again that people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it,” she says. “Today I am humbled to represent the purposeful work we’ve done for McDonald’s.

[8:09 pm GMT] Mariel Chavez, Brand Director for Procter & Gamble Philippines wins Young Marketing Leader of the Year. “As brand builders, we have a unique and expansive platform to communicate our values and who we are; this should be our north star, such that anything that we put out there for our consumers clearly communicates what we stand for.”

[8:10 pm GMT] The Chief Marketing Officer of the year is one of the youngest general managers ever at Unilever: Kristine Go, General Manager for Nutrition Unilever Southeast Asia. Many of her colleagues are presented testifying to her drive, passion for brand purpose, and ability to execute. She has been with Unilever for 16 years.

“I stayed because I still have a job that gets me excited to come to work every day and colleagues that are not only driven but have a lot of heart,” Go says. “As I look back at the journey it’s taken to reach this point, I only see the people who have been with me every step of the way.”

[8:15 pm GMT] Tambuli Advertiser of the Year is Unilever Philippines, Inc. Agency of the year is Ogilvy and Mather Philippines, Inc. The jury decided not to award a Platinum winner for brand purpose categories. The Platinum Award for Company of the Year is “Classrooms in the Cloud” for Telenor Group by Ogilvy Pakistan.
