MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Avon lives up to its advocacy for women’s health and well-being with the launch of its #FeelYourself movement this October, inspiring Filipinas to lead the charge in the fight against breast cancer.

Breast cancer remains the most commonly occurring cancer in women worldwide. In 2022, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with the disease, with 670,000 recorded deaths. In the Philippines, where breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women, Avon is strengthening its commitment to promoting early detection, awareness, and education.

The latest Avon Boob Census, a comprehensive study conducted by the global beauty brand every year, reveals that of 7,000 women across seven countries, including the Philippines, only 45% of women feel confident identifying signs of breast cancer — down from 47% in 2023. Just 12% of women are learning breast self-checks from family, a decrease from 20% last year.

However, there is also growing hope: more young women are becoming proactive about their health. Among women aged 18 to 24 with a family history of breast cancer, 27% are now getting tested for genetic mutations, up from 20% the previous year, reflecting a new wave of empowered women across the globe feeling confident in their knowledge of breast health.

For over 30 years, Avon has stood by women in their journey to breast health awareness, encouraging them to take control of their health. Launching their breast cancer awareness month campaign, the #FeelYourself movement encourages women to prioritize their well-being and include breast self-checks in their self-care routine as self-care that could save their lives.

Joanna Newark, Avon Global’s Chief Storyteller and Breast Cancer Survivor, said “Looking good on the outside starts with feeling healthy on the inside. Between juggling work, supporting family, being a friend, daughter, sister, or mother, our busy lives can make it easy to overlook or prioritize looking after our health, but it’s crucial that we take the time to check in with ourselves.”

Through regular breast self-checks and awareness, breast cancer can be detected early — making a life-saving difference. With early detection, there is a 90% survival rate — a testament to how knowing the signs, knowing the risks, and knowing how to take action can make all the difference in one’s journey through breast health.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Avon is calling on all to unite, take action, and empower each other to take charge of their breast health through a series of uplifting, educational, and impactful events.

Feel Yourself Pink Parade: a celebration of strength and solidarity

The centerpiece in Avon’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities is the Feel Yourself Pink Parade — a powerful and inspiring celebration of community, courage, and hope. Taking place on October 20, Sunday, at Emerald Avenue, Ortigas City, the event is set to be a vibrant show of solidarity for breast cancer awareness.

Slated to be present at the event to show support and help the cause are Avon ambassadors and celebrities, such as Heart Evangelista, Kyline Alcantara, Enchong Dee, and Miss Universe Philippines queens Chelsea Manalo, Alexie Brooks, Ahtisa Manalo, Tarah Valencia, and Cyrille Payumo. Help raise funds and show solidarity by joining the parade at avonpinkparade.ph, with all proceeds going towards The Philippine Cancer Society, a long-standing partner of Avon in the mission to fight breast cancer in the country.

“This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we continue to create a better world for women, celebrating their resilience and strength. Through our roadshows and the Pink Parade, we aim to inspire every woman to take ownership of her health. Early detection saves lives – it’s important to know the signs, know the risks, and know how to take action to fight breast cancer,” said Marion Limlengco, Avon Philippines’ Head of Communications.
