MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In a landmark collaboration, the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd), Khan Academy Philippines, and Smart Communications have joined forces to enhance educational accessibility across the nation. This partnership provides free, localized curricular content on the Khan Academy platform and offers Smart subscribers complimentary data access to these resources. Effective immediately, Smart prepaid users receive up to 5GB per week, while postpaid subscribers enjoy up to 10GB per month of free access to Khan Academy.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara emphasized the initiative’s significance, stating, “This partnership is a pivotal step toward integrating technology into our education system, ensuring that quality learning materials are accessible to all Filipino students and teachers, regardless of their location.”
Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine, President and CEO of Khan Academy Philippines, highlighted the collaboration’s impact: “By offering free, localized content, we aim to empower educators with innovative tools and provide students with engaging learning experiences that cater to their unique needs.”
Kristine Go, Senior Vice President and Business Unit Head at Smart Communications, expressed the company’s commitment: “At Smart, we are dedicated to bridging the digital divide. This initiative is now available nationwide, with plans to expand content offerings and data allocations based on user engagement and feedback. The partnership reflects a shared vision of leveraging technology to make quality education accessible to all Filipino learners.
