ASUNCIÓN, PARAGUAY — Water crisis is part of the world agenda in search of sustainability. It is a problem that goes beyond a region, to the point that guaranteeing the availability of this vital resource is one of the Sustainable Development Goals for the 2030 Agenda.

Paraguay is located at the heart of South America, a natural treasure that travels the world. It is one of the largest freshwater reserves on the planet. With that, Oniria\TBWA and the H2O Sounds of Water Orchestra understood that their awareness message should reach every corner of the world.

To achieve that goal, they devised a very special sound: the Water Harp, an instrument that works with water from the largest rivers in the country, achieving a musical call that gives voice to water so that the world can listen carefully and pay attention to what this vital resource has to tell us.

It is an original creation, unique in the world, which is inspired by the Paraguayan harp and will be part of the “Listen to the water” world tour.

The launch was held on January 18th at Asuncion Municipal Theater.

“H2O Sounds of the Water is the orchestra that creates music with sustainable materials, raising awareness about preservation and bringing a symphony of education and respect for nature to communities across the country. A project firmly committed with the United Nations’ Sustainable Developmet Objective 6. To further amplify this message, we created the Water Harp, an original instrument that will accompany them on the Dubai Expo,” said Camilo Guanes, Partner and CCO of the advertising agency that led the idea, Oniria\TBWA.

The action includes a landing page with statistical data of contaminated freshwater in Paraguay, the transcription of the Sustainable Development Objective Number 6 and a form to load your city/country in the harp tour.

During the harp’s stay at the Dubai EXPO, there will be a camera to the harp to record people’s reactions when seeing and touching the instrument.

Once back in Asunción, the harp tour through different cities will begin.

The initiative will end with the instrument auction, on World Water Day, which is on March 22nd, 2022. What’s raised will be destined to strengthen the H2O project.

The artist behind the water harp is Fernando Amberé Feliciángeli, who used elements such as iron and glass to make it, as well as hoses to develop the hydraulic part. Its ornament is made of iron, which was allowed to rust with water, a detail that recalls the Paraguayan harp. The execution of the instrument in the orchestra is the responsibility of the harpist Alexandra Britos.

“With the sound of its dazzling water strings, this new instrument is our messenger to bring the voice of clean water from the heart of South America to the rest of the world. It is also an instrument with which we seek to give a new voice to the Paraguayan harp, a symbol of our culture, which has gained great diffusion and acceptance in the world,” concluded Luis Szarán, director of Sounds of the Earth and the #SomosH2O program.
