MANILA – The life of a reporter is often lonely. Long nights spent alone watching grim news. Depressing and fake news dominating thoughts. It’s the kind of scenario Atom Araullo faces in a new ad for McDonald’s McCafe.

As Atom spends another night in the newsroom, he is shown receiving messages on his laptop. “Pssssst.” “Busy ka?” “Suplado?” “Anong balita?” are the messages that flash as Atom monitors the goings on. Finally, he decides to get up and leave.

Hopping into his pick-up and heading for a McDonald’s Drive-Thru, Atom is then shown outside a house. When the door opens, an elderly gentleman emerges. “Pa, marami akong balita,” he tells his dad, Miguel while handing his father an iced McCafe coffee even as he keeps a hot coffee for himself.

“Real conversations start with McCafe,” begins the closing narration. “Brewed with 100% real Arabica beans.”

This marks the first ad for Atom since departing the previous station he worked for after an extended stay. It also comes on the heels of his own starring turn in acclaimed director Mike de Leon’s Citizen Jake, where Atom plays the starring role of a journalist who is also part of a political family.
