MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Tourism (DOT) and its digitally centric creative agency DDB–Tribal Worldwide Philippines (Tribal DDB) has released a new video titled “Balikan ang Pilipinas” (Revisit the Philippines) during Christmas eve. It tells the story of our balikbayans who have had the chance to come home to the Philippines during the Holidays and return to familiar places and activities within their regions and provinces for a well-deserved vacation.

Part of DOT’s newly launched “Balikan ang Pilipinas” campaign, the video brings all the feels that would make Filipinos abroad want to return to their mundo (world) and rediscover the country’s tourism gems. In so doing, the industry will be able to bring back the jobs and livelihoods of its stakeholders.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that the campaign and its video highlight the reopening of the country’s tourism sites with the lifting of the COVID-19 related travel bans, which has allowed visiting Filipinos working and living abroad to experience once again the joy, the beauty, and the colors of the Philippines.

“With the campaign, we welcome our balikbayans back home, who now have the opportunity to be together with their families and friends. This is the chance for them to create new memories while visiting destinations that are now open and safe for tourists.” Puyat said.

“This is the main reason why the DOT has focused on establishing and promoting safe tourism under the new normal. We’re enforcing stringent safety protocols so that we can resume tourism activities sooner, while ensuring the protection of everyone.”

Millions of tourism workers are ready to welcome these balikbayans home, with industry stakeholders (travel agencies, hotels and resorts, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc.) ensuring that they implement the safety protocols and series of precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Notably, the DOT received a SafeTravels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council to certify its compliance with global health standards that allow for safe travels.

Tourists who plan to visit the Philippines will be able to check the list of open destinations and health guidelines at https://philippines.travel/safetrip, or through the Philippines.travel app that they can download both on iOS and android devices.

Directed by Sheron Dayoc, DOT’s newest online video uses the hit song “Mundo” of rock band IV of Spades, which, this time, was performed by internationally acclaimed The Loboc Children’s Choir and Filipino indie rock band Ciudad’s vocalist Mikey Amistoso.

Have a safe trip to the Philippines!
