A brand spends millions of money into researching the perfect branding for their products, one that immediately identifies it as their own. For some, a logo, a tagline or even a simple shade of color can stand on its own to identify the brand – take it away and it’s just a regular pair of shoes, an everyday denim, or a home-cooked burger that could have come from anywhere.
Billboards put up all over Puerto Rico prove that this is not always true. In the case of Mcdonald’s, its products are so iconic and recognisable that even if you smack a blurry and supposedly indistinguishable image of it in the middle of a busy street, people will still know exactly what it is.
TBWA/ San Juan’s “Say No More” campaign takes the Mcdonald’s products as they are, blurs it, and asks the people to guess what it is (as if it needs guessing).
