COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — TV 2 Danmark, in collaboration with the Danish League and Player’s Association, confronts the ugly side of football fandom in a brand new campaign that tackles hate speech and discrimination.
Directed by filmmaker Martin Werner and produced by Bacon, the campaign under the initiative‘Stop Before Crossing the Line (Stop før Stregen) doesn’t just tackle discrimination and hate speech in football – it shames it, by putting a mirror up to those who perpetuate it. And what stares back? A clown. By calling out those who post hateful comments online without thinking, this kind of behavior is outed as as foolish and immature as a clown.
Inspired by a stark 2022 survey revealing that 65% of top-league players and 44% of players across Danish football have faced hateful messages, the campaign taps into satire and social commentary to spark something bigger: introspection, empathy, and behavioral change within the game.
The campaign is directed by Martin Werner, produced by Bacon and made with TV 2 Creative.
