UNITED KINGDOM — Greenpeace UK collaborates with Aardman Animations, the studio behind Wallace and Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep, to create a powerful short film about ocean destruction.
Entitled “Turtle Journey”, the film follows a family of turtles finding their way back home. It started out like the usual family road trips, with children fighting and playing at the back of the car, until the family took the ‘scenic’ route.
Which is not-so-scenic after all. Instead, the family encounters a variety of ocean threats, e.g. oil drilling, plastic pollution, over fishing, and coral mining.
Created with a mix of CGI and stop-frame animation, Turtle Journey is a poignant reminder on how the sea wanderers live in our oceans today.
The film was given life by Academy Award-winning actors Olivia Colman and Dame Helen Mirren, along with Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey, Stranger Things’ David Harbour, Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter, and comedian Ahir Shah.
According to Greenpeace UK, six out of seven sea turtle species are threatened with extinction, and it’s not just turtle life, but marine life is also disappearing at twice the speed of life on land.
The film ends encouraging people to sign this petition for ocean sanctuaries. For every one deserves a safe home to live in, and that includes animals.
