MANILA, PHILIPPINES – After dealing with unprecedented times, it’s safe to assume that Filipinos are ready to move on from the year that was. To say that 2020 was eventful would be a massive understatement; it was a year that began with a volcanic eruption, and then defined by extended lockdowns at home. Trendy culinary concoctions, reprioritization of self-care routines, and unforgettable heartbreaks ensued.

So, while some would find it easier to simply put these moments behind, Manulife and Wunderman Thompson Philippines’ new film – aptly titled “Goodbye, Hello”– chooses to acknowledge all of them – both the good and bad.

GOODBYE, HELLO

The story centers on the relationship of Miguel, a struggling millennial, and his Grandma Nora, who served as his source of inspiration as he recounts all the challenges, losses and uncertainties that came in 2020. It is through his Lola’s unwavering zest for life and unconventional display of affection that Miguel is finally able to find what it really takes to move forward.

“The year 2020 taught us a lot of things. Because of the pandemic, our values and priorities have changed. We focused on the truly essential, and realized what we must do to make our loved ones feel cherished and protected,” said Melissa Henson, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Manulife Philippines. “The new year gives Filipinos the opportunity to look back and look ahead at the same time, and we at Manulife Philippines are determined as ever to be with them in every step of their financial journey. As our new digital film aptly puts it—when life stops, we keep going with you.
