MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Nike Philippines will honor the legacy of Kobe Bryant (1978 – 2020) with Mamba Week 23 – 27 August. The week of programming brings together athletes, communities, inspiration and innovation which commemorate his enduring legacy and transcendent Mamba Mentality.

Mamba Mentality is about getting better, every day, in everything we do. In his own words, Kobe described his Mamba Mentality by saying, “It’s to constantly try to be the best version of yourself. It’s a constant quest to try to be better today than you were yesterday.”

This relentless drive for improvement is celebrated in a new Nike film, “Better.” Narrated by Kendrick Lamar, “Better” celebrates the universal relevance of progress and highlights Kobe’s prolific desire for improvement. While incremental change may feel small in the short term, those subtle shifts culminate to greater progress over time. This relentless drive for improvement is part of the legacy Kobe leaves.

During Mamba Week, Nike Philippines will champion Kobe’s legacy and Mamba Mentality through several key initiatives:

  • Mamba Mentality Live: On 24 August, a virtual gathering of athletes and Kobe fans will come together to discuss his impact on the next generation in pursuit of a better version of themselves. Inspirational voices of Mamba Mentors – Kiefer Ravena, Jimmy Alapag, Camille Clarin and Kat Tan – will fuel the conversation, sharing their experiences and thoughts on and off the court attuned to the theme.
  • Nike Training Club (NTC): Sessions powered by Mamba Mentality pillars (i.e. Passion, Optimism, Fearless, Focus and Honesty) will be open for all to join via the NTC app.
  • Kobe Products: A seasonal footwear collection that spans memorable colorways of the Kobe V Protro and limited edition LA Lakers jersey will also be available during the week.

Jino Ferrer, Country Marketing Manager, Nike Philippines said, “Kobe’s memory is very much alive in the hearts of Filipinos today, as we remember his energy and charisma when he visited Manila in 2016. His legacy lives on and Mamba Mentality truly channels puso as Filipino ballers can relate; to be better each day and continue to elevate themselves and their game. It’s truly empowering, coupled with the voice of local athletes as we stay committed to serving the community, especially young women and girls as Kobe was dedicated towards.”

In support of getting young women and girls active, Nike Philippines has worked with Girls Got Game Philippines. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young women and girls through a variety of sports – to bring to life programs highlighting mental, physical and emotional benefits sport can bring to enrich their lives. They will also be present during Mamba Mentality Live, to address how Mamba Mentality has come to life in their community, and the infectious positivity it can continue to provide as a catalyst for growth and betterment.
