MANILA – Apparently, you can teach an old dog new tricks. In the case of the latest ad by Ogilvy & Mather Philippines for KFC, the “old dog” is dramatic actor Pen Medina, and his “new trick” is an action role… or is that “roll?”

A few months after he and Leo Martinez lost to Ronaldo Valdez to be KFC’s First Filipino Colonel, Medina isn’t giving up. Just last week, he was seen asking his talent manager to help him get a different role. Tired of being recognized for his many dramatic endeavors, the silver-haired Medina was shown looking for a new challenge.

Thus, the new KFC ad shows Medina resplendent in the white suit that Col. Harland Sanders made famous. As a crowd is cheering him on, Medina is shocked when two men in hardhats wrap him up like a burrito. A tractor then lifts up the Medina burrito high before releasing him down a KFC-branded ramp.

The rolling actor proceeds to encounter different groups of Pinoys. From cyclists to guys setting up a basketball court to crossing a busy intersection and paying his toll on an expressway, Medina is eventually given a police escort before rolling down a red carpet.

Slightly shaken, he proudly exclaims, “I’m the new KFC Colonel, and this is my new Sisig Burrito. Let’s roll!”

Now that Medina and Valdez have had their share of the KFC spotlight, can the hilarious Martinez be far behind?
