SINGAPORE — Thousands of bouquets are exchanged in Singapore each year for Valentine’s Day, with many imported from all over the world, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions due to their air freight.
Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and BBH Singapore are therefore celebrating Valentine’s Day differently this year with gorgeous locally-sourced Valentine’s Day bouquets that do away with air freight.
Collaborating with botanical design studio, This Humid House, Sentosa has created an exclusive range of Eco Bouquets sourced from flora and blooms that have been cultivated at the resort island’s nursery and gardens, as part of environmental landscaping efforts. A total of 40 bouquets will be up for grabs through a contest launched on Sentosa’s Facebook and Instagram channels.
The Eco Bouquet is wrapped in recycled craft paper and comes with a gift tag that outlines the locations the bouquets are sourced from Sentosa, encouraging guests to discover the wild side of Singapore’s holiday island for themselves on their next visit.
Mira Bharin, Divisional Director for Marketing and Guest Experience, SDC said: “This initiative showcases the diverse plants and flowers that can be found on Sentosa, and gives our guests a chance to win an Eco Bouquet and celebrate Valentine’s Day in a sustainable manner.”
Kenneth Foo, Senior Art Director, BBH Singapore added: “We think this is a beautiful way of practising sustainability on Valentine’s Day while at the same time, showcasing the surprising diversity of plants that are grown on Sentosa”.
Launched on 5th February, the activation will continue until the end of this month.
