MANILA – How does one feel when missing something so integral to one’s existence? In the case of Tony Labrusca in the latest ad for McDonald’s, it’s as bad as missing a lover. Or at least that’s what Leo Burnett Manila shows us.

As a male voice belts out a modern remake of Aegis’ 2002 hit “Halik,” our protagonist, Tony, is running through stopped cars in traffic. Visibly frustrated, Tony also has to deal with a road being closed, jumping through puddles, and overhead construction to an as yet unclear destination.

When the music reaches that familiar refrain and crescendo, Tony storms into a McDonald’s where we see that the popular McSpicy chicken sandwich has made a triumphant return. Now available in Original and Garlic Parmesan variants, it’s been a year since the McSpicy whetted our collective appetites. It is therefore only fitting that the return of the McSpicy is marked by such an emotional ad.

As Tony bites down on his McSpicy, we see the luscious red lips of the girl he is dining with. When the camera pans out, a haze covers the mystery woman’s face, prompting us to wonder who this new lady in Tony’s life could be. After all, we’ve already seen Tony go through the ups and downs of a break-up with Elisse Joson in two previous McDonald’s ads.
