MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Inspired by how the world has come together at a time when people are called to stay apart, illustrator Jassy Laragan and copywriter Arlou Yuzon create a typeface project that uses “space” as a means to bring hope together. The ongoing project, named “FONTLINERS,” is a social distancing font for a cause.
Jassy “Gun” Laragan, creator of art brand “Pajama Art” and senior art director and illustrator at IdeasXMachina Group of Hakuhodo, alongside partner Arlou “Grey” Yuzon, a senior copywriter from the same agency – launched their project dedicated to frontliners.
“In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the world transformed ‘distance’ as a catalyst of ‘togetherness.’ While physically apart, nations have united against a common goal — to heal,” Laragan said.
The typeface project features a wider kerning configuration, to act as if the characters are also practicing social distance. The font is housed inside a donation microsite fontliners.com where people can contribute and support frontline organizations battling COVID-19.
FONTLINERS is given in exchange of donations. Allowing people to use its quirky spaces to create art, and bring together messages of support and positivity for the world. As of today, they have raised a total of Php 17,225 for #FONTliners. Proceeds are sent to selected beneficiaries using a PayMaya donation page.
