MANILA – Christmas is the time when we strive to give our loved ones the best gifts we can think of. That often entails sacrifice and selflessness because it usually means we place a premium on them more than on us.

The latest ad by McCann Worldgroup Philippines for Jollibee titled, “Ang Regalo ni Lolo (Grandfather’s Gift)” personifies that as an elderly grandfather shops for an ideal gift for his granddaughter. He goes to a toy store and finds the price for a toy to be too expensive. As he spots a toy on sale, it is still a bit out of his budget.

Forlorn, the grandfather finds a nearby Jollibee. As he eats his Yumburger, he hears a little girl tell her mother off-camera that she found something she likes. The grandfather wraps his gift as pictures of his granddaughter, Thea, inspire him.

On Christmas Eve, Thea’s parents eagerly hand her their gifts. She screams “Wow!” at each gift before her dad directs her to open her lolo’s present. Now looking slightly embarrassed, the grandfather looks like he almost doesn’t want to be there.

Upon opening her lolo’s gift, Thea screams with delight, “Si Jollibee!” as a talking Jollibee Talk & Blush Doll toy is revealed. Continuous cheers emanate from Thea as she hugs her lolo who says he knows Jollibee is her favorite.

“Thank you, lolo!” and “Best gift ever!” are soon heard from Thea while lifting up the doll as her mom, dad, and lolo look on. As the day ends, Thea is shown sleeping with Jollibee in her arms while her lolo smiles from the doorway.

The ad closes with the words, “Para sa mga bata, walang katulad ang saya ng Pasko ‘pag kasama si Jollibee.” Finally, the image of the Jollibee Talk & Blush Doll now being available nationwide is also shown.

No time of year resonates more for the Filipino family than Christmas. This ad from McCann Worldgroup Philippines and Jollibee reminds us that extravagance and bigness aren’t necessary to show our loved ones just how much they matter to us during this period.
