ASUNCION, PARAGUAY — Fundación Paraguay Sin Basura presents the “July Without Plastic” campaign, led by Oniria TBWA, with the aim of making visible the problem of excessive use of plastic and encouraging each Paraguayan to eliminate at least one piece of plastic from single use during the month of July.

The initiative is inspired by the global campaign “Plastic Free July,” present in more than 190 countries and with more than 140 million participants in 2022.

Under the concept “A minute in our hands, an eternity in the environment,” the idea for 2023 is to expose the large amount of plastic that people unconsciously use in daily tasks. “In this way, we want to help in making decisions when purchasing a product or service, opting for responsible purchases for the benefit of the health of their families and our environment,” explained Camilo Guanes, Partner and DGC of Oniria TBWA

In Paraguay, approximately 600 tons of plastic are thrown away every day, of which more than 60% are not recycled and end up in places they should not, such as landfills, rivers and streams. It is estimated that between 80% and 90% of plastics in the ocean arrive there through rivers, and that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean.

“In Paraguay there are laws that regulate the use of plastic and seek to protect the environment. The circular economy should be part of our regular vocabulary and not a technical word,” said Clementine Winkler, Founder of Paraguay Sin Basura

This campaign is promoted by Fundación Paraguay Sin Basura in a strategic alliance with Fundación Moisés Bertoni, WWF PY, UNDP PY, Global Compact, Sistema B, Koga, CAPASU, Casa Rica, World Bank, British Embassy and MADES, with the support of Oniria as a creative agency and Piri as a digital agency.
