MANILA – To most of us, our struggles since childhood can lead to deep levels of loneliness. There are times when we yearn to be understood and accepted by our peers to no avail. In those instances, one person never fails to give the support, encouragement, and love that we seek, our mothers.
That is at the core of Seven A.D.’s latest ad for Unilab. ‘Son’ depicts the dilemma a mother faces as she raises a son who deals with adversity from a young age. With narration provided by the nameless mother through a series of flashbacks, she shares how even from a young age, she knew her son Kevin was unlike other boys. Kevin gets barely passing grades in school, comes home after getting into fights, and even lashes out at his mother for not understanding what he is going through.
It is later revealed that Kevin uses art to express himself, leading to those same uncomfortable situations as he grew up. The final scene presents Kevin and his mother looking at an exhibit of the young man’s art. Different pieces of art that resonated from his youth are part of the exhibit, with a painting of his mother as the lasting centerpiece.
‘Son’ is Unilab’s tribute to moms on Mother’s Day – those people in our lives who show kakaibang alaga in raising and caring for their children. As the ultimate partner in healthcare, Unilab salutes moms who want nothing but the best care for their families. Veering away from the familiar mother-child stories, this particular material aims to showcase how the brand understands that though every child is different, a mother’s love remains always hopeful and steadfast.
