MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In a world where visual communication is more important than ever, Canva is dedicated to making creativity accessible to users everywhere. Silvia Oviedo, the Head of Content and Discovery at Canva, recently shared her thoughts on the platform’s vision and the design trends expected to shape 2025.
On identifying the 2025 design trends
“We live in a world of visual communication and creativity, where we can mix and match ideas,” Silvia emphasized.
She explained that Canva’s team analyzes user behavior, search patterns, and emerging trends from their 200 million monthly active users. This information is combined with insights from their in-house designers, creating a unique blend of data-driven analysis and creative intuition.
One of the most notable trends for 2025 is “Analog Meets AI,” which merges traditional design methods like collage with the efficiency of AI tools.
“People are drawn to the human elements in design—the quirks and imperfections that nostalgia brings—while also appreciating the refinement and endless possibilities offered by new technology,” Silvia noted.
This blending of contrasts isn’t limited to Analog Meets AI. Other trends, such as “Mechanical Botanical,” which combines industrial aesthetics with natural elements, and “Serious Fun,” which introduces playfulness into corporate design, reflect a broader desire to harmonize opposites.
People and brands as key design builders
Silvia highlighted that Canva believes “everyone can be a designer.” The platform empowers users—from small business owners to Fortune 500 companies (95% of which utilize Canva)—to stand out in a crowded digital space. “We aim to help people shine amid a vast sea of communication,” she said.
She also pointed out the increasing significance of visual communication in professional settings. Research from Canva shows that 92% of employers now expect design skills from their employees, highlighting the need for accessible tools that allow professionals to create engaging visuals for various purposes, including sales presentations and HR documents.
As Canva expands globally, it remains committed to localizing its content library to cater to its users’ diverse needs. “Regardless of who you are or where you’re from, you’ll find content that truly resonates with you,” Silvia remarked. In the Philippines, for example, one in six internet users engages with Canva monthly—a clear indication of the platform’s widespread appeal and cultural relevance.
Looking ahead, Canva aims to enhance its impact by nurturing creativity at all levels. Silvia expressed her enthusiasm for seeing how users will bring the 2025 trends to life: “Each trend includes a mix of templates, video, photography, typography, and even sounds for users to explore.”
Whether assisting small businesses in crafting eye-catching social media posts or providing enterprises with tools for innovative branding, Canva’s mission remains focused: empowering everyone to design and communicate visually. Silvia encapsulated this vision beautifully: “Behind every user lies an incredible story.”
As Canva continues to promote creativity, it’s clear that the platform is not just about design; it’s about enabling vibrant stories to be told in impactful ways.
