MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Just in time for what is believed to be the most crucial election in Philippine history, Linya-Linya teamed up again with Filipino activist and award-winning author Lualhati Bautista to create a shirt that reminds everyone of the importance of speaking up and making voices heard.
“Mahalaga at makapangyarihan ang boses ng bawat isa sa atin…Tayo mismo ang dapat magsuri. Kailangan nating makisangkot sa mga problema ng bansa natin. Tayo ang huhubog sa kinabukasan natin at pati ng mga susunod na henerasyon,” Bautista says.
“When choosing our leader, we are also choosing our own future– dapat lang na makialam at maki-alam tayo sa mga nangyayari at mga nangyari na. Kaya naman for our second collaboration with Lualhati Bautista, we decided to immortalize a remarkable piece from her novel ‘Bata, Bata…Pa’no Ka Ginawa?’ We believe that this will inspire more people to reflect on their choices and get more involved in social issues,” says Linya-Linya Creative Director Ali Sangalang.
Bautista reiterates the importance of speaking up– all it takes is a line or a simple phrase to convey a message. “Hindi kailangan ang maraming salita para magpaabot ng mensahe. Tama na ang isang linya, isang konting salita. Ang mahalaga ay ang titimo sa isip natin,” Bautista says.
Bautista’s novel “Bata, Bata…Pa’ano Ka Ginawa?” won the Grand Prize at the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 1984. Her most popular novels include Dekada ’70 and ‘GAPÔ.
