MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Print lovers were spoilt for choice last month, making the photography leg of Shelter Fund a huge success. The initiative, which aimed to support local photographers by selling their prints online at reasonable prices, ran for the entire month of May. And although the photo print sale has now been closed, the Shelter Fund is still not finished.

The organizers have decided to extend the project to include works by local artists and illustrators, selling prints of original signed artwork finely crafted on archival, heavyweight paper printed by Shutterspace Studios

The prints are available in A2, A3, A4, and A5 sizes.

“The ideals remain the same: to protect, to provide, to unite. Through your purchase, you help keep us safe in our homes, able to continue and contribute, and more importantly, we have all committed to contributing part of our individual sales to a communal fund, making sure everyone is benefitted by your generosity,” the website reads.

Just as in the first leg, participating illustrators have agreed to contribute part of their individual sales to a communal fund that will be donated to other communities that have been heavily impacted by the pandemic.

Here are some of the artists you should definitely watch out for:

Auggie Fontanilla – Known for his graffiti-style art, Fontanilla has made a name for himself as a street artist whose works intertwine Americana tattoo, and gangs, with Filipino religious heritage. A unique combination, but effective enough to communicate powerful messages to the public through art.

Robert Alejandro – Renowned artist, designer, and illustrator Robert Alejandro is one of the most respected names in the local creative community. He has designed storybooks, theme parks, and malls, but his most beloved pieces are arguably his sketches of everyday life in and out of the country.

Electrolychee – Philippine-based design and illustration studio Electrolychee’s artworks are a vibrant play between computer-generated vector art and hand-drawn imagery. Its pop-inspired designs have landed the team major projects for brands like Coca-Cola, Globe Communications, Nike, Samsung, and more.

Dan Matutina A founding partner of Plus63 Design Co., Matutina is a graphic designer and illustrator that has received the coveted Art Directors Club Young Guns Award in New York. His style is described as a combination of angular, graphic shapes layered with hand-painted textures that have been showcased in print, digital, and animation.

Ang Gerilya – Ang Gerilya (The Guerrila) is an artist collective made up of art students from the University of the Philippines that brings to light socio-political issues, local history and culture through their works. Some of the collective’s most popular pieces highlight displaced Lumad groups, the Freedom of Information Bill, the Katipunan (KKK), and medical frontliners, to name a few.

Aaron Asis Illustrator and graphic designer Aaron Asis’ artworks have distinguished itself from the rest with his distinct use of brushstrokes that create an almost whimsical picture. His pieces take on a very impressionist style, with subjects that range from portraits to abstract depictions of emotions.
