MANILA, PHILIPPINES — This Earth Day, Discovery is putting the sounds of nature in the spotlight with its regional campaign #StartWith1Thing: Compose for the Earth. The sobering reality that the beautiful sounds of nature are diminishing due to human activity and must be resolved is the guiding principle of this campaign.

Through #StartWith1Thing, Discovery addresses one environmental issue per country across the region including light pollution in Malaysia, illegal fishing in Singapore, and water pollution in the Philippines. The overarching idea is that with collective effort, even focusing on improving one issue at a time will allow the awesome sounds of the planet to be heard again and be preserved and appreciated for generations to come. This applies to simple acts that people can do in their daily routine like using reusable items such as water bottles, utensils, and eco-bags.

In order to remind people stuck at home of the gift of nature’s music, Discovery is launching a website that allows users to create a personalized mixtape using t]he sounds of the Earth accompanied by soothing instrumentals. Head over to discoveryearthday.com on Wednesday, April 21 at 5:00 PM to compose your own music for the planet. Share your creation on social media and encourage your friends to do the same with the hashtags #DiscoveryEarthDay, #StartWith1Thing, and #ComposeForTheEarth.

Different programs will be featured weekly every Thursday until the end of May at 9:00 PM on Animal Planet. This year’s Earth Day programming includes Lost Beasts Of The Ice Age, Huntwatch, Wild Tanzania: River Battlefront, Living With Maneaters, Racing Extinction, and Rise Of The Warrior Apes.
