MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In the spirit of Bayanihan, the country’s fastest-growing social media app KUMU does its part in uplifting the Filipino spirit and extending a helping hand to distraught families amid the standing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the current CoVID-19 situation in the country. The help comes in the form of an online fundraising concert dubbed SOCIAL DISTANSING which airs starting today, March 26, until April 4, from 4 pm to 9 pm via KUMU and featuring some of the biggest and up and coming names in local entertainment today.

KUMU, which has surpassed the 3 million mark in downloads since its inception in 2018, is calling on its users to donate virtual gifts and coins during the live streaming series. Donations will be converted to cash for the procurement of survival kits and wholly distributed to Filipino families whose jobs and livelihood were affected by the ECQ, through the help of the People for Accountable Governance and Sustainable Action (PAGASA).
“A lot of people want to help but either can’t do it physically or don’t know where and how,” says Mica Pineda, Kumu Head of Campaigns. “Some feel like they have too little to give but through KUMU, they can give instantly and with as little amounts as 20 centavos or “piso-piso”, when collectively put together will make a huge difference. That’s exactly what Bayanihan is all about for KUMU— doing our part to contribute to the whole.”
Among the celebrities and artists who signed up for the SOCIAL DISTANSING performances via livestream are Dingdong Dantes, Derek Ramsey, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista, Kean Cipriano, Denise Laurel, Morisette, Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia, Quest, Kris Lawrence, Guji Lorenzana, Nyoy Volante, Jake Cuenca, Solenn Heusaff, Jay R, Mica Javier, Nar Cabico, Keiko, Sabu, Polly Cabrera, Martin Riggs, St Wolf, EJ De Perio, Travis Ateeo, Lance Busa, Ria Atayde, Josh Colet and many more. App users can also interact with their favorite stars and discuss relevant topics regarding the current situation gripping the country.
The online concert for a cause is a KUMU Cares initiative which is spearheaded by KUMU’s VP for Content, actor KC Montero, together with actress, host, entrepreneur, and content creator Mica Pineda.
“KUMU knows the power of coming together as a community and we know that we can rely on our influencer friends to support our cause for the benefit of those in need instead of just sitting around in our houses,” shared Montero. “KUMU exists for and because of Filipinos all over the world and now is definitely the best time to come together, reach out, help, and overcome this adversity any which way we can.”
