MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Digital solutions platform and digital lifestyle leader Globe underscored the value of keeping netizens safe from emerging risks and dangers of the online world at the Nascent Technology Summit x Digital Pilipinas 2022 held recently.
At a round-table discussion on “Edutech: Enabling the Next Generation of Technologists,” Globe’s Senior Manager for Sustainability Integration Miguel Bermundo spoke about several company initiatives that aim to keep subscribers protected online, including the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) and the #MakeITSafePH campaign.
“We are experiencing persistent growth and constant integration of technology in our daily lives. Because of this, we have programs in place to ensure that our customers are equipped to responsibly navigate their digital life, especially when it comes to online safety for themselves and for others,” Bermundo said.
DTP is an on-demand learning course available via Globe’s eLibrary that aims to educate people on proper online behavior and encourage them to participate in creating an open, inclusive, collaborative, and safe online environment.
Being constantly online to study, work, play, or socialize has made a lot of Filipinos— notably children and young adults— more vulnerable to internet threats such as sexual exploitation, abuse, identity theft, and cyberbullying.
#MakeITSafePH is Globe’s initiative that seeks to ensure that Filipinos are protected from these numerous online dangers. Through many different legs of the program, it provides practical tips and easy-to-digest information about the various threats individuals and organizations may face, along with how they can protect themselves online.
Globe has also partnered with UNICEF Philippines, the SaferKidsPH Consortium, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) to mount a united front against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, showing the value of holistic cooperation in the fight.
Digital Pilipinas is the largest private sector-led movement intended to create a solid ecosystem for innovation and technology in the country. Already in its third year, this movement is supported by the Philippine and Singapore governments, and some of the most prominent technology, education, and financial services companies.
The Nascent Technology Summit and the launch of Digital Pilipinas’ 2022 roadmap was made possible through the partnership between Digital Pilipinas and the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST – PCIEERD). The event is one of the organization’s initiatives to help build a Web 3.0-powered Digital Pilipinas, focusing on education technology, cybersecurity, the metaverse, cryptocurrency, blockchain, fintech, and e-commerce.
