MANILA – “Tokhang” comes from two Visayan words. “Katok”, to knock. And, “hangyo”, meaning “to inquire.” It means to check in on, it is practically synonymous with “Kumusta”.

It has been more than three years since President Rodrigo Roa Duterte launched “Tokhang”, his war on drugs. How has it all been since 2016?

PumaPodcast, a pioneering podcast producer in the Philippines, will be releasing a five-part audio documentary, ‘Tokhang sa Tokhang.’ A mid-term special report on the war on drugs, more than three years into President Duterte’s term. “Tokhang sa Tokhang,” as we would say. “Tao po, kumusta ang Tokhang?”

Hosted by multi-awarded veteran journalist Roby Alampay, this series speaks with characters at the frontline of government’s anti-narcotics campaign. “Tokhang sa Tokhang” features the voices of parents, spouses, their children, researchers, community workers, artists, journalists, musicians, statisticians, police, PDEA agents, even government officials, to ask, “Kumusta?”

PumaPodcast checks in on President Rodrigo Duterte’s still ongoing war on drugs. Roby Alampay and PumaPodcast’s researchers do their own knocking and inquiring. Their own ‘katok’ and ‘hangyo’. While Philippine media’s coverage of the war on drugs is already deep and extensive, this series offers an unhurried, reflective approach to the topic, a contemplative effort to take stock of what has transpired so far.

PumaPodcast, a pioneering company in Philippine podcasting, is committed to delivering entertaining, engaging, and compelling audio experiences hosted by journalists, industry experts, analysts, and storytellers.
