MANILA, PHILIPPINES — As Metro Manila and four other provinces in the country return to the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), Google Maps adds the routes and schedules of more free shuttle services for frontliners provided by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Office of the Vice President, and the City of Pasig.
With this update, frontliners and health workers can calculate their estimated travel time and easily find the best way and schedule to get to their destination. The “add to calendar” feature can help reflect the shuttle schedule right to their Google Calendar so they can organize their day and ensure they will not miss their ride. By checking out the “schedule explorer” feature, they can get the shuttle schedule information at one glance. Updates to the routes and schedules from the government units will continuously be shown on Google Maps.
To access this service on Google Maps:
- Launch Google Maps via app or web.
- Enter your intended destination.
- Tap “Directions.”
- Select the public transit tab. This is the train icon which comes after car and motorcycle icons.
- Maps will immediately pull up a recommended route which uses the government’s shuttle routes, when available.
“Our goal is to help our frontliners and medical workers–our modern heroes–with the best of our technology. Adding the routes and schedules of the free shuttles and other locally relevant information on Google Maps to make their daily transport easier and more convenient is just one of the many ways we show this commitment,” said Bernadette Nacario, Google Philippines Country Director.
Google Maps is available via web or app which can be downloaded on the Play Store or the App Store.
