MANILA – Facebook announced today that it is expanding M suggestions to people using Messenger in the Philippines. M is an AI-powered assistant in Messenger that suggests relevant content and capabilities to enrich the way people communicate and get things done.
People can experience M by simply chatting with a friend or a group. From there, M makes relevant suggestions to the conversation.
Starting today, M will offer the following suggestions:
Sending stickers: M shares fun sticker suggestions for daily life interactions like “Thank you” or “Bye-bye”
Sharing your location: M can suggest an option to share your location during a conversation when people ask questions like “where are you?”
Starting a poll (in group conversations only): Having a hard time making decisions in a group? M lets people set a poll topic and vote in group conversations
Wishing someone a happy birthday: M suggests sending friends a birthday wish on Messenger through a birthday sticker, wish card, or video with accompanying birthday art effects
Initiating calls/video calls: If people are chatting 1:1 or in a group and someone expresses interest in making a call, M will suggest a voice or video call on Messenger. For example, if someone says “want to call me?” M will surface this suggestion
M uses machine learning to identify intent and suggest actions that help people effectively manage their conversations. The more the technology is utilized, the more it learns about peoples’ communication patterns. If people don’t want M’s help, they can ignore or dismiss a suggestion, or turn off suggestions in their settings.
Launched in April of last year in the US, M has added new layers to conversations and enriched social interactions on Messenger. With M expanding in the Philippines and Vietnam today, the completely automated virtual assistant is now available in 13 countries.
