At the tail-end of 2019, global fashion search platform Lyst has once again released its annual fashion recap. Based off of an extensive collection of fashion-related data, the platform compiled results on this year’s hottest trends, collaborations, and products into a comprehensive guide to sum up the year’s biggest fashion moments.

To start, themes of inclusivity, sustainability, and diversity dominated the year’s brand campaigns–rightfully so given consumers’ continual progression towards conscious consumption. We all know that trends come and go, but one can only hope that this is one for the long term.

According to Lyst’s results, 2019 was a year of romance and drama in fashion–think a larger-than-life cloud of tulle (ala Carrie Bradshaw, perhaps) paired with the borderline-microscopic Jacquemus Le Chiquiti mini bag levels of drama. One could say nostalgia made a big impact on this year’s trends, with plenty of 60s and 70s trends having resurfaced, most notably in the form of Proenza Schouler’s tie-dye collection and a Ralph Lauren tie-dye button-down

Lyst dubbed Bottega Veneta as the year’s number-one breakout brand, with the 2018 appointment of Creative Director Daniel Lee to thank for their new image. Kerby Jean-Raymond’s Pyer Moss nabbed the second spot due to its highly-anticipated September S/S ‘20 show, “American, Also,” a direct address to the lack of acknowledgement of African American influence on popular culture. Jacquemus’ Spring 2020 show, appropriately held in a Provençal lavender field, earned them a place in third.

The year was rife with iconic fashion moments, such as Viktor & Rolf’s meme-inspired couture, Savage x Fenty’s dazzlingly diverse lingerie fashion show, and of course the MET Gala’s ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion,’ to name a few.

With 2020 right around the corner, Lyst also shared its predictions for the upcoming year’s trends. Expect to see space-age holographic fabrics, Japanese-inspired style, oversized handbags, and more political fashion statements in your future.
