MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Leading Philippine media and entertainment company ABS-CBN is now part of the international series “Sellblock,” a co-production of BlackOps Studios Asia from the Philippines, Story Arch Pictures from the United States of America, and Agog Film Productions Ltd. from Hong Kong.

The prison-set action drama, which is now in pre-production, will have a Filipino lead star that will come from ABS-CBN’s stable of artists to be announced soon.

International media Variety broke the story last week as BlackOps Studios Asia, Story Arch Pictures, and Agog Film Productions Ltd. unveiled the 16 films and series included in the co-production partnership they forged at this year’s European Film Market in the Berlin Film Festival.

“Sellblock” is one of these projects that they will develop for the global streaming marketplace.

ABS-CBN is directly working with BlackOps and Philippine-based creative agency Psyops8 for the project, which also has the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

“As one of the leading media and entertainment organizations in the Philippines, creating excellent quality content for global audiences is a top priority for us at ABS-CBN. We’ve chosen to partner with BlackOps for their captivating Sellblock series because it has everything we’re looking for—high-concept, high-drama, high-stakes, and a high-profile international cast,” said ABS-CBN International Production and Co-Production head Ruel Bayani.

“As last year’s Squid Game proves, a local production with the right ingredients and production values can resonate phenomenally with audiences worldwide,” added producer-director Pedring Lopez, the head of both BlackOps and Psyops8.

The Philippines’ leading content provider, ABS-CBN continues to forge new partnerships to promote Filipino stories and talent all over the world. Entertainment website Deadline revealed recently that ABS-CBN is also collaborating with Filipino-American actor Reggie Lee and Filipino-American film producer Jeremiah Abraham for “Concepcion,” a crime drama about a Filipino family’s rule in a Los Angeles town.

ABS-CBN also announced earlier this year the all-star cast of “Cattleya Killer,” a thriller series produced for global audiences that will be shown later this year. It is also behind “Almost Paradise,” the first American TV series filmed entirely in the Philippines, which it co-produced with Hollywood’s Electric Entertainment.
