MANILA, PHILIPPINES — WaterBear, the free streaming platform dedicated to the future of our planet, has today launched in The Philippines as part of its global rollout.

WaterBear’s inspirational content – spanning biodiversity, community, climate action, and sustainable fashion is now available to watch in 194 countries via the WaterBear app and website as well as on Apple TV.

Founded by Ellen Windemuth, the Executive Producer of BAFTA and Oscar-winning documentary My Octopus Teacher, WaterBear launched in December 2020 with the support of Prince Harry and has since become the go-to destination for documentary lovers and viewers that want to turn intention into action.

To celebrate its launch in The Philippines, WaterBear is partnering with local ambassador Issa Barte to create content inspired by WaterBear’s mission of shaping a better future for our fragile planet. WaterBear is partnering with local NGO For the Future to plant one tree per new member from the Philippines for the first 1,000 sign-ups.

In its first year, WaterBear has built a network of over 140 NGOs and partners; given members access to more than 300 campaigns; produced 36 impact films and 20 WaterBear Original productions, and curated over 1000 award-winning documentaries on the platform, that empower viewers to dive deeper, learn more about the issues behind the programmes and take direct action.

As well as WaterBear’s most popular films and series in English from the past year for free, including The Breakdown, a WaterBear Original series about the climate crisis narrated by filmmaker and YouTuber Jack Harries; Mother of the Sea, a WaterBear Original short based on an inuit myth about the importance of protecting the planet; The True Cost, a feature documentary about fast fashion.
