MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Liyab, the professional Esports team of Globe in cooperation with Mineski, inflicted a 2-0 drubbing of Smart Omega to end its campaign with a third place finish in the 2021 Wild Rift Southeast Asia (SEA) ICON Philippine Series over the weekend.
The team, composed of composed of Nicoli “NICCSU” Montenegro, Miguel “MIGGIE” Banaag, Eric “EXOSEN” Gubatan, Kevin “GAMBIT” Dizon, Lars “3SH” Maniego and Robert “MORAYTABOY” Tan, went all out against their bitter rivals to cap off their stint on a rousing note.
“It was a morale-boosting win but more importantly, it showed how far the team has improved but we still need a lot of work to do. We learned a lot from the last tournament especially on how we value our training and preparations. We are hoping that the boys will be motivated even further to keep the momentum and the faith that as long as they work hard and play together, they can give the more experienced teams tough matches in forthcoming tournaments,” said Head Coach Edriane “Eds” Balbalosa.
Liyab was one of the eight teams that qualified in the Philippine Playoffs. The team opened the tournament with a setback against Amihan Sports but won their next two games against VVV Sports and RRQ to remain in contention. Liyab then beat Smart Omega to produce its biggest win in the tournament. Liyab wound up placing third in the tournament after losing to Team Secret in the lower bracket finals.
“We would like to thank all of our fans who rallied behind the team. We expect tougher games in upcoming tournaments and our fans’ unwavering support will really make the difference as we go against tournament favorites,” added Robert “MORAYTABOY” Tan, Team Captain of Liyab Wild Rift squad.
