LIMA, PERU — RRQ Akira are the champions of LIGA LATAM, a regional tournament, winning the lion’s share of a combined prize pool of $50,000. Emerging victorious in a 4-1 (best-of-five series) with Malvinas Gaming, RRQ Akira proved their dominance in the competition through well-timed positionals and team fights; finishing the regional mission that their Southeast Asian counterparts could not fulfill. The team is composed of former members from Keyd Stars, that were acquired during MPL Brazil Season 2 and who subsequently won the championship title.
Held between June 13-19, the second edition of LIGA LATAM went offline for the first time at Centro de Convenciones de Lima and brought together eight regional Mobile Legends: Bang Bang squads across Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and Mexico – as one region, to compete for the title. The tournament saw over 350 audiences cheering for their favorites in person, with a new peak-concurrent viewership record of 30,494 spectators, according to Esports Charts.
LLM 2022 is sponsored by smartphone partner Infinix, Smile. One as the official esports partner, and was broadcast live on TikTok, its official short video app partner. This season, UTP has come onboard for the first time as the official education partner, alongside Honda, Claro Gaming, and Cifrut as its official esports partner.
MLBB Esports will continue looking for more opportunities within Latin America with community, amateur, and pro tournaments to nurture ecosystem growth. LIGA LATAM was hosted alongside the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup at Kuala Lumpur, where the M4 World Championships dates were announced. Gaming and esports fans can look forward to more MLBB action on January 1-15, 2023, with more details on the international tournament to be shared in the following months.
