SINGAPORE — The Organising Committee for the Singapore 2021 Global Esports Games (GEG) taps Singaporean TikTok star, Ng Ming Wei, as one of its KOLs for the inaugural event taking place in Singapore in December.
With nearly 70% (Source: GWI) of gamers in Asia-Pacific using TikTok, the collaboration with Ming Wei is part of a strategic approach to engage with gamers on their platform. The collaboration will see him working on the GEG World Finals, across the three major esports titles: Dota 2 (Valve), eFootball PES 2021 Season Update (Konami), and Street Fighter V (Capcom).
With a combined following of over 25 million across his social media accounts, the 26-year-old is also a Taekwondo athlete, with a Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship gold medal and Southeast Asian Games silver medal under his belt.
“Having visited the Tokyo Olympics in a non-competing capacity, I’m excited to be part of another world-class event. The tenacity shown by top esports athletes is something I identify strongly with and I look forward to telling their stories in a compelling way,” said Ming Wei, founder of Boom Digital Media, a one-stop TikTok specialist agency.
“It is our pleasure to partner with our local Taekwondo athlete and regional TikTok star, Ming Wei. Through his unique lens, we hope to showcase the sportsmanship of our esports athletes, amidst the electrifying atmosphere of the GEG World Finals,” said Mark Chay, Olympian, Nominated Member of Parliament, and member of the Singapore 2021 Global Esports Games Organising Committee.
True to its universal values of equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion, and innovation, the Global Esports Games will feature multi-title esports competitions, GEFcon — convention of thought leaders and idea creators, and GEFestival – the dynamic celebration of esports, youth culture, and much more. Following Singapore, the next Global Esports Games will be hosted by Istanbul in 2022, and Riyadh in 2023.
