MANILA, PHILIPPINES–It was an animated evening in more ways than one when Animation Council of the Philippines kicked off their keynote annual event Animahenasyon last Sunday, Nov 8 2020 via Zoom.
Robi Joseph of Ralph’s Wines and Spirits regaled the ACPI board and their guests with a unique toasting event. The attendees spent the evening imbibing a pre-delivered kit of select wines paired with choice cheeses and enjoyed with Robi’s keen knowhow annotating the experience.
As the evening wore on with laughter, music, and tipsy chatter, ACPI Executive Director Dan Enriquez kept the festivities apace as host. Festival Director Ricky Orellana welcomed everyone while ACPI President Miguel del Rosario’s opening remarks touched on the vision of ACPI “to promote and create the Philippines animation industry worldwide.”
Woven seamlessly into the flow were five toasts delivered by DICT Asec. Manny Caintic, ibPAP President Rey Untal, DTI Director Anthony Rivera, Liza Diño Seguera FDCP Chair, and Rep. Toff de Venecia. A video message from DICT Secretary Gringo Honasan wrapped up the formal part of the evening but certainly, there was a little bit more wine and a lot more conversation left to enjoy.
As it is ACPI’s 20th year, they’ve embarked on what is proving to be the biggest Animahenasyon ever. Twenty-three top animation leaders and creatives are gracing the webinar stage over 10 jam-packed days. Their international and local expertise brings to the participants invaluable wisdom and advise for creating and thriving in a career in these globally competitive arts. Two days of the festival are dedicated to screening and honoring the works of young animation talents who participated in Animahenasyon’s Film Competition.
While sessions and networking in person will be missed this year due to the pandemic, the online format is proving to be its own blessing as participants can catch the animation spirit and creative energy straight from the comforts of home unhampered by borders, time zones, and even quarantines.
