MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Nestled in the shoreline of beautiful San Juan is a coastal commune that features startups that are environmentally conscious and design-forward. La Union’s The Great Northwest takes the number one spot in the must-visit locations of the province.
The Great Northwest Philippines Travel Stop and Viewing Deck is now a hot topic in the roster of Instagrammable places in the country. To highlight why the community of artists and entrepreneurs is gaining traction, Kiddo Cosio, co-founder of El Union and Great Northwest will tackle how they’ve run and managed their business. They will likewise discuss how they navigated the lockdowns brought about by the pandemic.
Creative Futures, this year’s flagship event of CREATE Philippines slated on June 28-29, 2021, aims to gather the Filipino creative community and establish a path towards the future of their industry. One of the highlights on the second day of Creative Futures will be Cosio’s virtual discussion, which will detail why having solid design principles is as important as your profit margins.
“La Union’s Great Northwest is forging and looking ahead—answering questions like how will tourism be without tourists? How do you produce events without a sea of people? How do you succeed and flourish given those challenges? Cosio will be showing and talking about the future as he’s trying to make it, by sticking to human-centric principles from which their businesses began,” shares Erwin Romulo, Program Director of Creative Futures 2021.
“Cosio’s El Union, a popular coffee shop also in the area, stays true to their tagline ‘coffee in the service of humans,’ and that ethos permeates the way they designed their establishments,” Romulo adds.
The talk will reveal insights on how creatives can monetize and incentivize their creativity and turn it into businesses. Conference attendees will also enjoy a live stream of the Mona Liza Point, a natural and cultural landmark of La Union. Videos of La Union’s best-known tourism sights will likewise be exclusively shared during the talk.
“The immense potential of the sector to grow owes to the fact that Filipinos are innate creators. We just need to work together to teach our talents how to gain profit in this IP-based creative economy,” said Pauline Suaco-Juan, Executive Director of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM). Creative Futures is CREATE Philippines’ latest initiative and first fully digital iteration of the trade show after being launched in 2017.
